Prophylaxis
CUSTOMIZED TREATMENTS
Prophylaxis or professional dental cleaning or dental prophylaxis is a dental treatment that removes plaque and tartar from teeth and gums. This procedure is essential for oral health and also has aesthetic benefits, such as the removal of stains and dirt, leaving a cleaner and more attractive smile.
Dental cleaning process:
- Plaque and tartar removal: An ultrasonic device is used to dislodge plaque and tartar, especially under the gums. A water jet with baking soda can also be used to remove stains.
- Gum cleaning: It is possible that the gums may bleed slightly during this process, which is normal.
- Flossing: Clean between the teeth to ensure that there is no plaque build-up.
- Tooth polishing: A whitening and fluoride paste is applied to polish and brighten teeth, improving their esthetic appearance.
In some cases, if the tartar build-up is deeper, a dental curettage, which involves a deeper cleaning under the gums, may be required. This procedure is performed under local anesthesia and usually requires several sessions.
Benefits:
- Dental esthetics: Removes superficial stains caused by food and beverages such as coffee, tea or tobacco.
- Prevention: Helps prevent diseases such as gingivitis and periodontitis, avoiding tooth loss.
- Painless: It is a quick and generally painless procedure, although it may include anesthetic cream in cases of increased sensitivity.
